Ø rsted has announced its plan to build a 740MW solar power plant in the UK with related battery storage, known as One Earth Solar Farm, marking Denmark's first solar energy project in the country. The proposed solar energy project is located in Nottingham County near the Lincolnshire border and is being developed in collaboration with PS Renewables, a UK renewable energy development and construction company.
This Danish company stated that there are several potential market avenues for clean electricity generated by solar power plants in the UK, such as differential contracts and corporate power purchase agreements. Ø rsted plans to acquire ownership of UK solar projects in stages and achieve key milestones.
Duncan Clark, Senior Vice President and Head of First UK and Ireland, stated that First is committed to investing in various renewable energy sources to ensure supply reliability and independence. We welcome the ambitious goal of the UK government to install 70 gigawatts of solar capacity by 2035 and look forward to working with the government's new solar working group and stakeholders across the industry to maximize the benefits that solar energy brings to the country.
The goal of PS Renewables and Ø rsted is to start operating One Earth Solar Farm by 2030. The development agreement for this project is planned to be submitted in 2025. This depends on local and stakeholder consultations, which will begin later this month as part of the national major infrastructure project process.
Matt Hazell, co owner of PS Renewables, said that an Earth solar farm will make an important contribution to the country's decarbonization efforts. Our expertise in solar energy and? Rsted's record in renewable energy makes this project a notable one.
According to Ø rsted, One Earth Solar Farm will help achieve the company's goal of achieving 17.5GW of onshore production capacity by 2030.
