On the vast wasteland about 50 kilometers northwest of Samarkand, the second largest city in Uzbekistan, solar photovoltaic panels line up and shine brightly under the sunlight... On April 29th, the Samarkand 220 MW AC photovoltaic project, contracted by China Eastern Electric Group Co., Ltd., held an on-site open day event, marking the first public appearance of the project.
As another highlight of cooperation between China and Uzbekistan in the field of clean energy, this project has received high attention from the Uzbek government. During the Open Day event, Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Mamadaminov, stated that the project is "one of the first large-scale new energy projects in Uzbekistan. It is not only of great significance for consolidating the foundation of Ukraine China relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries, but also showcases China's green development concept and construction experience.".
During the event, Yuan Minggang, the leader of Dongfang Electric Group Co., Ltd., stated that Dongfang Electric upholds the corporate mission of "green power drives the future" and works with partners from all walks of life in Uzbekistan to share development achievements and create a better future together.
On that day, Mamadaminov and Yuan Minggang jointly unveiled the plaque for the "Silk Road Bookstore - China Bookshelf" located in the project department. This time, Dongfang Electric donated more than 150 books, covering aspects such as China's economic and social development, history and culture, literature and art, and technological development, to build a window for local employees to gain a deeper understanding of China.
It is reported that during the project construction period, Dongfang Electric Group actively fulfilled its social responsibility, vigorously hired local employees, and paid attention to the protection of local biodiversity and ecological environment, making positive contributions to the sustainable development of local society and environment.
Muhammadiev Sherzod, 26 years old, is an engineer in the photovoltaic area of the project. He has been working at Dongfang Electric since August 2023, mainly responsible for on-site construction technology management. "I think Chinese colleagues are very enthusiastic and energetic. Through working with them, I have learned many skills. I am grateful to Chinese companies for providing employment opportunities for young people in our local area. I am proud to participate in project construction and contribute to my hometown."
Shahnoza Mirzayeva is a mother of twins and currently serves as the project human resources manager, mainly responsible for external coordination work of the project department. "I quickly fell in love with this project. The openness, friendliness, and proficiency of my Chinese colleagues left a deep impression on me. I think Chinese companies have a strong sense of responsibility. For example, our project department actively fulfills social responsibility every month, donating books to local schools, and repairing sports facilities such as basketball courts, football fields, and fitness venues for local schools."
In November 2021, Dongfang Electric Group won the bid for the project. The project covers an area of approximately 438 hectares and uses over 450000 photovoltaic modules. Yuan Minggang said that after the completion of the project, it is expected to significantly alleviate the local electricity shortage situation and have a positive impact on Uzbekistan's energy structure adjustment and economic transformation and upgrading.
